    Arena for Equal Opportunity and Development (AREOD) is a local Non-Governmental Organization aimed at addressing the poverty issues affecting Northern Ghana, Ghana and the world for that matter to uplift the rural people in these areas from poverty and to assist them to attain their right to survival, protection, development and participation.

    Half of all children live in poverty, spending their formative years struggling to survive. We believe that addressing the diverse needs of youth and adolescents is critical to our mission to end poverty and promote equality. Half of all kids live in neediness, spending their developmental years attempting to endure. We accept that tending to the differing needs of youth and young people is basic to our central goal to end poverty and advance equality

    Many people in Northern Ghana live less than 1 dollar a day, they need a sustainable livelihood alternatives to match up with their living standard. AREOD’s mini farming projects provides sustainable alternatives to families, poor households, and groups. Through the trainings on bee keeping, snail rearing and traditional cat fish farming.

    The climate Change with its devastating effects is destroying lives and livelihoods across the world. People living in poverty usually rural dwellers, women, and children are mostly affected. We find this worrying and as a great concern need to change it. We are therefore engaged in running of environmental issues ranging from advocacy, and awareness and helping farmers with information on best practices to ensure that best environmental policies are followed. We believe that with such support groups especially women, individuals and communities can increase their yields in agriculture thus ensuring household food security thereby reducing if not eliminating poverty levels.

    ICT is one of the economic development pillars to gain national competitive advantage. It can improve the quality of human life because it can be used as learning and education media, the mass communication media in promoting and campaigning practical and important issues, such as the health and social area.
    As an integral part of Ghana’s Educational curriculum ICT is one of the required subjects studied in schools across Ghana however it is mostly taught only in theory. A good number of schools do not have access to computers and are not in a capacity to create ICT laps. The worse of the situation are government schools in rural areas not only do these schools lack. ICT teachers, they also lack the adequate infrastructure to handle the subject. This has necessitated us to carry out the Mobile ICT . Computers are carried to deprived schools where there is no electricity in the schools and are made accessible to these children who even though do not have access to such facilities are required to sit and take the Basic Education Certificate examination at the end of the Junior high school without any course to whether they have had training or not. This provides an unfair grading system to rural pupils since their urban counterparts would have had access to computers at one point or the order.

    It is said that School uniforms promote students' loyalty and reduces student’s tendency to be violent. Wearing of school uniform is really important for it gives students the feeling that they all belong in one community. In Ghana children of school going age wear their respective school uniforms. This promotes easy identification and uniformity of the students but due to poverty levels some parents are not able to afford such basic things. AREODS school uniform project identify needy but brilliant students with tattered school uniforms to provide such students with school uniforms.

    Manure production is an essential aspect of farming for less privileged people. Manure serves as a natural fertilizer, providing the necessary nutrients for crops to grow and thrive. For farmers with limited resources, producing their own manure can be a cost-effective and sustainable solution. One way for less privileged farmers to produce manure is through composting. This process involves collecting organic waste such as leftover food, crop residue, animal bedding, and mixing it with manure from animals such as cows, horses, or poultry. The mixture is then allowed to decompose over time, resulting in nutrient-rich compost that can be used to enrich the soil. Another method that less privileged farmers can use to produce manure is through the use of bio-digesters. Bio-digesters break down organic materials such as animal waste and crop residue through a microbial process, producing biogas and a nutrient-rich slurry that can be used as fertilizer.

    Our Main Activities

    • Involved in promoting access to good quality education for children in Ghana most especially the ones in Northern Ghana.
    • Evaluation , planning and implementation of environmental issues
    • To promote financial inclusion of the unbanked through the provision of financial literacy training.
    • Helping farmers in their decision making and ensuring that appropriate knowledge is implemented to obtain best result
    • Assisting farmers to go into what we term as mini farming, such as vegetable farming, Snail rearing and traditional cat fish farming
    • Assisting people to have access to food as a necessity for survival
    • Engaged in running of environmental issues ranging from advocacy, awareness and helping farmers with information on best practices to ensure that best environmental policies are followed.
